Day in the Life

6.25 am So I get up to go to morning exercise and work out for half an hour. I usually lift weights in the Human Performance Center [HPC]. I have a weight training circuit and I got up to 190 pounds on the leg press! From 7 to 8 is when I squeeze in getting dressed, taking a shower and all that good stuff.

8.00 am Then I go to gathering, which is the highlight of my day, it's probably my favorite thing. I really like starting off my morning with other members of the community, just enjoying the physical and spiritual closeness that I think we have. I especially like when we finish up with music and we’re all singing together. It just starts the day on a positive note.

8.30 am After gathering I go to Specials where I do various work in the greenhouse. I’m thankful for that time since I want to learn more about propagation and growing plants. Organic farming is something I definitely want to do with my life.

9.40 am I then go to first period, which is my science class, “Survival of the Fittest.” I love learning science and how it's been used in society with theories of evolution and social Darwinism to warp the way people use science to put people down and further racism.

11.00 am Then I go to 2nd period which is “Painting Words and Writing Pictures,” a combination of visual arts and writing where we'll express impressions of written work using art and vice versa. It’s a good integration because the two things go together well and it’s a good class structure with a lot of spontaneity. We don’t get in a rut of doing the same thing.

12.30 pm Before lunch I have Chores back in the greenhouse. I’m the only person in there and I get to take care of the plants and clean the greenhouse I really enjoy that time because I chose to sign up for that chore and it’s exactly what I want to do.

1.30 pm Normally I take a nap somewhere over the lunch break which is between 1.00 pm & 2.40 pm

2.40 pm I proceed to my third period class which is “To Devil with Opera.” It's an incredible class where we're breaking down the opera Faust and having constant discussions about morals and ethics and what's right and wrong and what people should do. The class just opened my mind to ways people should do things and contradictions in my own beliefs.

4.15 pm Every other Tuesday I have a Service Learning Advisory Council to plan various projects in the community. Then I’ll probably kick it in the lodge and drink tea or maybe go home and clean my area.

6.00 pm At Dinner I usually sit with Bern, Sevi, Madden and Heather where we like to have heated discussions about politics.

7.30 pm After dinner I will generally come home for a little bit and do some homework then head to our Tuesday night Community, Gender, or House meeting.

9.30 pm At House Curfew I’ll read and do some homework before I head to bed at 10.00 pm. I highly enjoy the fact that Wednesdays come after Tuesdays. I'll sometimes have so much homework that I’m tripping, but come ten o’clock I'll realize that I have intramurals the next day and I don't even have to trip.
