My Monday
Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada

5.50 am I wake up and slip on some clothes to be out in the cold. I run the gate--three miles-- and then

6.45 am I get to the lodge dining hall and have breakfast at 7. Then I go home and shower, get dressed, pack my backpack and do any homework I didn’t do the night before.

8.00 am Gathering is in the Lodge Hearth and then I go to my Specials which is Math Lab with Jimmy and Jill. They help me with math and doing revisions and working on any problems I might not have gotten in class. Mondays usually feel like starting over or a new beginning, depending on how much work I got done over the weekend. That’s what makes a Monday—how much work I did over the weekend. If I did my work, I’m excited.

9.40 am First period I have an Independent Study working on the history of Brazil and the indigenous people.

11.00 am My 2nd period I'm in “ERI” a crime scene investigation class. We're doing forensic science and I'm learning about DNA, DNA makeups and chromosomes. I have Chores cleanup in the Lodge. It doesn't last that long and I basically have some free time after lunch to do homework or I take my siesta, which is very necessary here.

2.40 pm For third period I go to the Human Performance Center and have “Weight Training Your Way.” I get to work out part of the class with my training program that I designed to help me. I want to gain body muscle and lose body fat so I mainly work on that.

4.00 pm Normally after class I do more homework. By 4 o’clock I can really use some alone time and enjoy just being quiet in my wing. Some days I would have Kitchen Patrol where I work in the kitchen or I prepare meals, clean floors, or wash dishes.

6.00 pm My favorite dinner is when our Admissions Associate LT and I coordinate a “Soul Food” night where we make collard greens, fried chicken, mac and cheese, Kool Aid and sweet potato pie.

7.00 pm After dinner I go to the Learning Resource Center to do homework or hang out with friends.

9:30 pm I have to be in my house. My house hangs out most of the time, catching up with each other. We'll come up to our Houseparent’s house. She's a French teacher at the local high school and she'll entertain us and feed us and we’ll talk and have a good time. I also normally call home or write emails to my family. Then I try to do some crunch homework in my area. If I have homework that I didn't do I'll do it for a while and then look at a magazine or read something to calm my nerves before going to bed.
