Eagle Rock's Changemaker Cohort: Empowering Leaders for Social Justice
At Eagle Rock, we are dedicated to cultivating a community of changemakers who are committed to social justice and anti-racism. Our Changemaker Cohort brings together adult-student partnerships from across the country, aiming to maximize impact through an anti-racist framework, asset-based approach, and grounding in wellness practices. If you are passionate about creating positive change and empowering students, this is your invitation to join us on this transformative journey.
We’ve piloted an entire Changemaker cycle internally, working on a variety of projects spanning from Graduation Requirements, Eagle Rock’s Branding and Media, DEI at Eagle Rock, Learning Exhibitions at Eagle Rock, and improving the Changemaker Cohort itself.
This past June, we launched our first external cohort including pairs from Highline Big Picture High School, Empower Generations High School, New VIsions Humanities IV High School, and Here2Here, along with one adult-student pair from Eagle Rock.
Areas of Focus
The Issue areas that teams are focussing on this year include Foster Care Youth, Student & Staff Mental Health, Student Engagement, Environmental Stewardship, and Restorative Practices. From these topics, the projects emerge.
To maximize the impact of the Changemaker Cohort, we employ an anti-racist framework, asset-based approach, and grounding in wellness practices. The cohort addresses various critical issues using practices like empathy interviews, shared experiences, and bilateral mentorship, to gain valuable insights that inform their projects and guide them in creating positive change in their communities and the world.
Fostering Partnerships Aligned with Social Justice
The Changemaker Cohort seeks partners who value social justice and anti-racism. We believe that genuine collaboration between adults and students, rooted in shared decision-making rather than rigid power dynamics, is crucial for meaningful impact. Our cohort consists of six pairs of adults and students, carefully selected from across the United States. By bringing together individuals who share a passion for justice and equity, we aim to create a community of support and thought partnership.
Connection and collaboration lie at the heart of the Changemaker Cohort. We aim to create a strong network effect where the work of each pair is coordinated to multiply learning and impact. The cohort embraces an asset-based frame, focusing on the unique gifts and strengths of its members. Grounding wellness practices allow for genuine connections to form, recognizing the importance of being fully present as human beings.
Invitation to Join the Cohort
Participation in the Changemaker Cohort offers a year-long transformative experience for six pairs of changemakers from across the country. With in-person convenings and ongoing coaching support, participants have the opportunity to implement projects that honor and equip students for future success. Travel, lodging, and meals are provided during the convenings, along with a $2,000 stipend to support projects throughout the year. School leadership support and a committed student partner are essential for joining the cohort.
