Facilities Maintenance Technician (Full Time Hourly/Non-Exempt)
Position Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Director of Operations
Overview:
Located in Estes Park, Colorado, with an enrollment of up to 72 students, Eagle Rock is a full-scholarship, year-round, residential high school that enrolls young people ages 15-17 in an innovative learning experience. Eagle Rock prepares the next generation of leaders to challenge unjust systems; we support students and educators to become catalysts of change in their lives and communities.
The Maintenance Technician works as part of the Operations Team. This position is responsible for performing groundskeeping, maintenance, and janitorial duties for the Eagle Rock School (ERS) campus as directed by the Director of Operations. The Maintenance Technician will follow the requests of the Lead Maintenance Technician. Once trained and prepared, the Maintenance Technician will take the lead on all groundskeeping on campus as well as pool maintenance.
Groundskeeping includes, but is not limited to:
- Clearing/plowing snow from the campus roads and parking lots
- Salting & Sanding roads
- Trail and path maintenance and snow removal
- Pest Control - with and without vendor support
- Landscaping - with and without vendor support
- Leading community service projects, (with a groundskeeping/facilities focus), working alongside students and staff
The ideal candidate will have basic building maintenance and groundskeeping experience as well as knowledge of proper housekeeping, janitorial, and cleaning methodologies. Additionally, the candidate should be willing to have their shift temporarily adjusted based on the campus needs (e.g. evening or early morning snow removal).
The Maintenance Technician provides the ERS campus with a safe, healthy, and maintained school campus and environment. They will keep buildings and campus grounds clean and maintained, as well as provide support for the security of school buildings and property.
The position will work within and to support a diverse community of learners, including high school students from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and geographic backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ students, and students from low-income communities, all of whom have been underserved in traditional educational settings. Our staff is intentionally diverse as well. Experience living in and/or working with a similarly diverse community is preferred. This position is employed through Ascend staffing agency and will be assigned at Eagle Rock School.

Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to perform basic building maintenance such as patching drywall, replacing light fixtures and bulbs, unclogging toilets and sinks, repairing or replacing latches, locks, and hinges for doors and windows, and greasing various pumps and bearings
- Ability to perform basic groundskeeping activities such as mowing lawns, trimming trees and bushes, walking path maintenance, shoveling and distributing gravel, spraying or pulling weeds, planting new greenery, and watering
- Ability to work safely with a variety of cleaning supplies and janitorial equipment, such as mops, push brooms, floor scrubbers, floor vacuums, and backpack vacuums
- Able to understand, calculate, and work with various measurements (e.g. volumes and dimensions).
- Ability to drive a large maintenance truck and follow all related safety protocols
- Experience with large (over 100,000 gallons) swimming pools, pool equipment, and the needed maintenance and chemical balance is preferred
- Ability to navigate and work with computers and software systems such as Google Workspace (e.g. Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets)
- Organizational skills and attention to detail for multitasking
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Ability to manage time efficiently
- Autonomous, work well without supervision
- Experience working with students is preferred
- Must be willing to engage in the community experience at Eagle Rock
- Must be willing to engage with students, staff, and residents in an empathetic, patient, compassionate, and considerate manner

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Performing basic maintenance, groundskeeping, and cleaning as assigned on Eagle Rock's maintenance and janitorial task schedules
- Supporting student service projects on campus, where students learn basic maintenance and groundskeeping while providing a service to the Eagle Rock community
- Coordinating and scheduling vendor visits and related work estimates and projects
- Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors as needed
- Support Janitorial Cleaning Services if needed, such as cleaning and stocking restrooms and closets or taking out trash and recycling
- Ensuring doors are locked after hours
- Cleaning up spills with the appropriate equipment, as needed
- Shovel snow and spread snowmelt on high-traffic walking areas to avoid slips and falls
- Maintaining roads (paved and unpaved) by plowing snow, clearing debris, and other maintenance
- Perform deep cleaning and inventory resupply projects as needed
- Inspect school facilities to ensure that all facilities are suitable for safe operations, and maintained in an attractive and clean condition
- Plan, schedule and perform preventative and ongoing maintenance tasks for the purpose of ensuring equipment is in proper working condition
- Maintain knowledge regarding methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures, and health standards and hazards
- Support inspections per regulatory requirements
- Determine the type, amount, and delivery of maintenance and cleaning materials to support the efficient delivery of assigned duties
- Take all required training (online and in-person)
- Forestry: fell trees (e.g. dead tree and pine beetle mitigation)
- Plumbing/heating: unclog drains, in-floor heat maintenance
- Electrical: replace switches, outlets, fixtures, ballasts
- Drywall: replace drywall, texture, and paint
- Aquatics Facility Operator: maintain the pool in a safe, comfortable, and good working condition
- Carpentry: repair broken furniture, walls, ceilings, baseboards
- Landscaping and Erosion management: repair washed-out roads and paths, maintain drainage ditches; equipment operator; noxious weed management
- Athletic Field: mow, trim, and maintain the irrigation system
- Automatic Gates: troubleshooting and repair
- Fleet Maintenance: Support the scheduling and transportation of 15+ vehicles, such as small SUVs, service/work trucks, small buses, ATVs, skid steers, and other passenger vehicles and construction equipment
- Fire Protection Systems: maintenance and troubleshooting
- Appliances: troubleshooting, ordering, installation, scheduling repairs
- Kitchen Equipment Repair and Maintenance: descaling and cleaning ice machine and steamer oven
- Attend and participate in community meetings and training sessions, including gatherings, graduation celebrations, all-staff meetings, and weekly staff DEI
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Lifting and carrying cleaning bins and heavy equipment
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
- Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
- Ability to lift heavy objects at least 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights
- Going up and down stairs frequently
- Working with cleaning solutions and products
- Must be able to speak and understand English fluently
- Reliable transportation is essential (consider winter road conditions)
- Driving to run errands (could be several hours away)
- As part of the Operations team, must communicate by phone call, text, email, and radio (radio provided)
Pay Range:
$23-$27/hr depending on experience
Job Type:
Full-time non-exempt (40 hours per week)
Shift & Schedule:
5-day work week
Saturday - Wednesday
9:00am - 5:30pm (may be adjusted based on campus needs)
