Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and organized professional to join our Health & Wellness team as either a School Nurse (RN) or a Health Care Coordinator (HCC). This role is central to creating a safe, healthy, and supportive campus environment.

  • If hired as School Nurse (RN), the individual will provide direct medical care, health education, and leadership in emergency situations.
  • If hired as a Health Care Coordinator (HCC) without an RN license, the individual will focus on health program coordination, student wellness education, and administrative oversight, with support from an off-site or part-time RN consultant for medical protocols and oversight.

Note: This position is hired and employed by Medica, a nonprofit health company, and placed at Eagle Rock School.

Key Responsibilities

Common Responsibilities (School Nurse or HCC):

  • Coordinate care for students with ongoing physical or mental health needs.
  • Promote student wellness through education in areas such as nutrition, sexual health, mental health, and substance use prevention.
  • Work closely with counseling staff and the Director of Belonging to support holistic student well-being.
  • Serve as a liaison with families, external healthcare providers, and mental health professionals.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate health records.
  • Promote campus safety through staff training in first aid, CPR, and emergency response.
  • Participate in ongoing staff development.
  • Engage in daily community life, including staff meetings and campus events.

If School Nurse (RN):

  • Provide direct clinical care, including treatment of illness and injury, health assessments, and triage.
  • Train and delegate medication administration to staff in accordance with Colorado Department of Education guidelines.
  • Lead emergency medical response and serve as the primary health authority on campus.

If HCC (Non-RN):

  • Coordinate health services logistics and scheduling.
  • Lead wellness programming and health education.
  • Partner with our consulting RN for all medical protocol decisions and oversight.
  • Support staff certification and training coordination in partnership with licensed professionals.

Required Qualifications

For School Nurse (RN) candidates:

  • Associate degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current, unencumbered Colorado RN license
  • 1–3 years of nursing experience (school, pediatric, adolescent, or mental health preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA
  • Strong understanding of psychiatric medications and emergency response

For Health Care Coordinator (Non-RN) candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, social work, psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working in youth development, education, or health program coordination
  • Understanding of adolescent development and wellness promotion
  • Ability to coordinate with licensed healthcare providers for medical oversight
  • Training in CPR and first aid (or willingness to obtain)
     

For All Candidates: 

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Experience working with high-school age youth
  • Familiarity with Google suite or similar tools
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required

Compensation

  • Salary range for this position: $60,000 - $90,000 (based on role, education and experience; the higher end of the range is reserved for candidates with advanced degrees or certifications)
