Position Title: World Languages (Spanish) Instructional Specialist

Eagle Rock School is a full-scholarship, year-round boarding school located in Estes Park, Colorado. With an enrollment of up to 72 high-school students, our supportive, community-focused environment fosters a transformative learning experience where students can thrive. Our school primarily serves adolescents from historically marginalized communities who have the desire and commitment to excel in academics, leadership, and personal growth. Job Objective:  The World Languages (Spanish) Instructional Specialist serves as part of Eagle Rock’s instructional team.  The position includes creating and facilitating an innovative curriculum, leading an instructional focus on world languages and cultures, creating empowering learning experiences both in and outside of the classroom, and stewarding the care of the facilities and resources in the department. Spanish is the primary language offered on a regular basis, with the opportunity to teach other languages as the need arises. 

Qualifications:  BA/BS required or equivalent experience required; MA/MS or equivalent experience preferred; license in teaching World Languages preferred; strong speaking, writing, and teaching skills in Spanish; Native Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience teaching in mixed-ability classrooms with various levels of language from novice to native speakers is an asset; extensive experience working with adolescents; strong organizational and leadership skills; commitment to personal and professional growth; experience living and working in a residential setting preferred.

The successful World Languages candidate will possess experience teaching high school Spanish with a wide variety of course designs and program models; experience in Big Picture, Expeditionary Learning, or similar progressive school models; experience with competency-based and interdisciplinary curriculum design; and a commitment to experiential education and project-based learning. In addition, candidates will have experience working with English Language Learners, as well as the ability to differentiate for students with a wide range of learning styles and needs; experience supporting students with learning interventions informed by academic data. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum:

  • Commitment to and embodiment of creating a campus-wide culture of belonging, competency-based curriculum, and ERS instructional values

  • Collaborate across departments to develop, implement, and refine an innovative interdisciplinary World Languages (Spanish) curriculum that centers and empowers students

  • Develop culturally responsive and differentiated curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that support a diverse range of learners

  • Steward department budget, facilities, inventory, and resources

  • Mentor/supervise/coach a teaching fellow each year; continue to grow coaching practices

Student Support:

  • Build a toolbox of practices to support adolescents in their personal and academic growth

  • Support students in leveraging strengths to overcome academic challenges, including in classes, 1:1 meetings, support meetings,  and small group tutoring

  • Participate in internal professional development to better support students

School-Wide Involvement:

  • Participate as an active member of one of the residential house teams, including mentoring students through advisory

  • Co-create and deliver engaging student programming opportunities as part of an evening program team; regularly work one night a week on this team and with students

  • Engage in weekend programming and supervision of students through the rotating weekend staff schedule 

  • Perform other duties related to being an active community member at ERS, including advisories, community meetings, service projects, house team participation, and other community events

  • Be open to working as a residential Houseparent should the need arise. On campus housing is not guaranteed

  • Be an active member of the ERS community beyond this job description

Compensation: 

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package:

  • Salary range for this position: $ 50,000- $80,000 based on education and experience
